Confirmation that the UK economy shrunk by 20 per cent in April shows the cost of lockdown and furloughing
Concerns are beginning to surface even amongst the most ardent supporters of Boris Johnson’s government, disquiet is rearing its head regarding the handling of a range of events and I suspect the news of a twenty percent reduction in GDP during lockdown will reinforce these reservations.
I recently said on these pages that a future inquiry into the coronavirus crisis should not ask the question “why did we not lockdown earlier” but instead should ask “why did the government introduce lockdown at all?”
